Aaron Smith

Aaron Smith received his BS in Dance from Wayne State University. He has danced for Ron De Jesús Dance and performed at The Joyce Soho, Chicago Auditorium Theatre and Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. He’s performed original works by Dwight Rhoden, Sonya Tayeh, Larry Keigwin, Janis Brenner, Nicholas Leichter, Ray Mercer and Miguel Perez. Aaron created original works for institutions that include Joffrey Academy of Dance in Chicago, University of Arizona, Dance Kaleidoscope, Island Moving Company, Visceral Dance Chicago and Denver School of the Arts. His choreography was presented at American College Dance Association and International Association of Blacks in Dance conferences. Aaron went on to receive his MFA in Dance at the University of Arizona where he received the School of Dance 2017 Graduate Creative Achievement Award. He has instructed the graduate research course, Critical Issues in Dance and taught jazz, ballet, tap, and modern dance technique and worked as a teaching assistant. Aaron finds the ability to support, inspire and instill professionalism in the next generation of dancers the most rewarding part teaching.
